1st Granite Year 123
Early Spring
We have embarked at an excellent site. The surroundings are calm, with little in the way of wildlife to contend with.
A brook lies below and to our West, and a volcano to power our forges lies to the North East. The land is fertile and thick with both soil and clay, while rare glimpses of rock hint at the promise of metal and gemstones below ground.
There is an acquifer to the West which we will need to contend with, but our initially high, Eastern position is ideal. The acquifer is not nearby, and the wide ledge we are on offers ample grazing space for animals, as well as a rich bounty of trees, while still being simple to secure from any enemies that may approach.

My first assigned tasks are as follows:
Miners Tholtig, Erush and Tun to remove ramps on this level, securing it.
The peasant Bombrek to take up arms and armour, and take charge of our war dogs.
The stoneworker Atis to await the first supplies of quarried rock from the miners, and then to construct block walls at pinch points on the ledge.
Myself and the doctor, Zon, will secure the livestock in a temporary pasture and, once mining of our entrance commences, begin moving supplies below ground.
23rd Slate year 123
Mid Spring
The food stocks are underground, and the entrance diggings are complete. Atis constructs blocks for walls and shores up the first floor of hallways, where diggings into ponds have caused flooding. The rest of us carry supplies below ground.
We have a winding entrance dug out, which can be lined with fox holes, traps and floodgates to control access to the fortress proper. Next, we will descend another level and begin diggings for our farmland. Atis will need to delay aboveground defensive walls, as we need some roofs constructed over our first floor, where digging into ponds was required.
