Dear Politicians →
You push certain legislation, people are going to - and they are allowed to - discuss, critique, analyse and compare that legislation because that is how politics and democracy works.
Don’t like people pointing out that, over and over and over and over and over again, your party stance is harmful to women in particular? Tough shit. Women vote, and they have a right to know what might...

TAST week 17 →
Yes! One of my favourite stitches for this week’s TAST. Wheatear stitch. As I said before, I’m doing something different to fill out my diary page for week ending 21st April 2012, seeing as I had very little in the way of actual news to write about, and the inclusion of wheatear stitch for the TAST has given me ideas.
38 Degrees, patient-sponsored GP event →
It’s just been revealed that two big private healthcare companies are plotting to rig the future of our NHS. On Tuesday, Capita and United Healthcare are planning to schmooze leading GPs at a conference in London - the GPs now in charge of deciding the future of local health services.
The big private companies have got the money to gain influence, but we can invite doctors to our own...

Oooh!
Okay, this should be fun! I’ve been asked to make a couple of name patches to sew onto the niecelets’ school bags. I’m going to get feedback from the girls re; what they want on the patches - colour choices, if they want any pictures, etc, but what I’m really looking forward to is the chance to produce some embroidered writing using more than just backstitch. I’ve...

From the latest development report over at Bay 12.
The Miner’s head skids along the ground, bruising the muscle, jamming the skull through the brain and tearing the brain!” That happened after a minecart full of stone going ten times as fast as the dwarf collided with him and sent him flying. They’ll skid on a part if they are moving fast horizontally when they hit the ground....

Rebochan submitted:
All the JRPG stuff reminded me of Magna Carta and the very crazy character poses I remembered seeing in the concept art. This pic is a great collection of the MC2 cast. Oh, and some Escher Guys for the win (yes, there are two guys…I know, hard to tell), though they’re…
The rubbery style might be consistent, but I note that while I can kind of figure...

A recent study (full details here) offered a bit of evidence to support HAES principles. HAES, for those of you who don’t know, is Health at Every Size. The idea is that healthy habits are beneficial, regardless of weight, and that weight-loss as an end goal is counter-productive.
The study…
I still find it shocking that so many of us have asked about this over the...

A little bit of HAES 101
A recent study (full details here) offered a bit of evidence to support HAES principles. HAES, for those of you who don’t know, is Health at Every Size. The idea is that healthy habits are beneficial, regardless of weight, and that weight-loss as an end goal is counter-productive.
The study looked at data regarding healthy habits and mortality “hazard ratios”. What this...

Embroidering about a bajillion different things right now. Working on my TAST entry/diary page. Stupidly I started it before finding out what the TAST stitch for this week is and, although I find french knots very easy and use them a lot, I’m finding it hard to work out a way to use them as a proper feature of this week’s piece.
Also stitched up a detailed sampler to turn into a...

Dear Fellow White People
Do you think we could maybe stop having the “can we call it racist” conversation? Is it possible that when something racist is pointed out we could, maybe, not derail the entire conversation by picking the event apart into it’s smallest parts and iffing and butting until the term “racist” magically disappears? Could we perhaps stop acting like being accused of...

Step One: See forum thread titled “are feeding tubes the new Atkins”, in which OP posts concerns about new trend for women to literally go nil-by-mouth prior to their wedding to get “thin enough”
Step Two: Prepare awesome reply about body image issues and body politics. Consider preparing some notes on HAES and body acceptance.
Step Three: Note that half the replies...

I set a hauler to ride a minecart to its next stop. That happened to take the dwarf down eight ramps and then up a launch ramp into an open cavern. High up in the cavern there was a wide ledge and on the ledge there was a goblin, chilling out right where I had created it. I activated the dwarf’s squad, and he had just enough hang-time at the top of the flight arc to get a punch in. The...

I’ve started work on my diary entry for week ending 7th April 2012. Got a design sketched out, transferred the sketch to fabric and have started stitching.
This one should be interesting for me, because this week’s TAST stitch is stem stitch, something I’ve never quite got the hang of. I know how to do it, but my stitches tend to wander and with something like stem stitch,...

Ah godsdamnit, I’ve got gorgeous new embroidery I want to share but forgot to charge camera batteries. Oh well.
@Stephen Fry re: EA thing.
It’s hard to tell whether or not this is a PR thing by EA.
Given recent spurts in homophobic, racist, misogynistic crap int he run-up to the US election, I could believe that EA genuinely have been receiving hate mail for their LGBTQ characters. Thing is though, they, and many other companies, have been including LGBTQ characters in games for years, and while the...
